10 Useful Tips

  • Trusting someone to produce the best pictures for you and your most important date is tough – so who better than someone who has been recommended personally.
  • If you have booked your wedding through a wedding planner, it may be that they have recommended your photography best to use.   Even though this may be the case, do consider all the points below as you are entitled to choose the photographer of your choice.
  • If you haven’t had a recommendation, then look at our directory and see who is available, visit their websites, see how they photograph.
  • Visit our Forum and ask about this photographer, it is more than likely that several have used him and can assist with your decision.  Remembering that recommendations are always best.
  • Make a list of no more that 5 points that are important to you about your photography and what it is that you are wanting from them.  Use this to help eliminate contenders and shortlist.

So now, you either have a recommended photographer or a Shortlist.
  • Know what you want, any particular poses, any settings you are keen to have, any wedding positions.  Ask to see what the photographer has done like this and it will help eliminate you to 1 photographer
  • Personality, character and friendliness go along way in the relationship you will have with your photographer on the day.  Remembering this is your big day, you will be filled with nerves, excitement, adrenalin rushing around and so you need to be with a photographer that puts you at ease, that can make you smile, relaxed and bring out the best in you and your groom.

From here you will generally have an idea of who you want, now what do you want them to do and at how much?
  • Prices are there for you to see, but do negotiate.  Booking as far in advance as possible can add wait to your negotiations – if done privately.
  • Think about who you want to be photographed, groups, families, the wedding venue, the wedding hall, wedding transport… make a list of what it is you would like.
  • Think about extras – Would you like a video taking, a CD making, extra photos in an album for your parents or guests. To help the photographer and your day present the best, discuss any extras with your them or your wedding planner.
