What to Wear on your Wedding Day - abroad in a hotter climate
This may be a difficult decision, as you can find yourself being torn between the dress you really love, but the material and style will make you feel uncomfortable on the day. So, what is the best type of wedding gown and suit for the Bride & Bridesmaids, the Groom and His Best Man to wear on the day?
Well think about the following questions?
-
What is the climate like in Cyprus in the month you are getting married?
-
Where is your wedding taking place?
-
What time of the day will you be getting married?
-
Will there be any form of shade when you get married?
-
Will the reception be outdoors on the terraces or indoors with air conditioning?
It is important to think of the above questions as this can assist you in deciding what is best to wear. One of the best people to discuss this with is your wedding designer or the Bridal shop you are looking to hire/buy from. They will have been in the industry for a while and will know the materials best suited to your needs. So what would be the better option in fabric and design for my Wedding dress? As with all dresses it is especially important to consider the design, the fabric and when and where you will be wearing your wedding dress, remember the questions asked earlier.
If you are still keen to wear the traditional bridal gown then consider lightweight materials, allowing room to breathe in the hotter climates. With the hotter climates you are likely to perspire even within a short time out in the sun, so make sure that your fabric is able to absorb this, after all you will not be wanting ‘sweaty’ patches on your dress or photos.
Natural fabrics are better for this however, there is a drawback in that ‘creasing’ is easier and consideration needs to be given to when your photos are being taken and how long you may have to sit in your wedding vehicle to your church or wedding venue.
With the design a popular design is the backless dress made with thinner materials. The swaying style dress will go down just as well as a full length wedding dress and allow air to float around you, making you cooler. Please do though check that if you are looking to wear a totally casual bikini styled dress, the chapels and churches may think this inappropriate, so please do check with your specific ceremony venue.

Bridegroom and Best Man – What is best suggested for him?
The groom normally will match that of the bride, however, if you are wanting to your husband to be not to know anything of the dress and style, then advise him, either to be more casual or have the formal look. This way you will look suited to each other.
On the formal side, again think of the fabric, the colours and the layers. So a lightweight suit, in a light colour to reflect the sun is certainly more popular. The formality can still be there in the form of a tie, and waistcoat / jacket, however, remember that with the heat, you man will sweat, and it is preferably if formal is the chosen option to have a jacket, as the photos can hide the patches that will be hiding for sure!!
The non formal approach would be to have a light linen or cotton, flowing trouser suit, again in light colours. Sandels or exclusive flipflops rather than the formal shoes would be more appropriate and your husband to be will certainly survive the ceremony a lot cooler!

For those getting married in a hotel’s garden close to the beach, and where photos would definitely encompass the beach area, the casual shirt and trousers flowing, with a loose fitting linen, cotton or silk shirt would be more than suitable. Again, remember, linen and cotton to crease, and silk will stick to you when it has a hot body under it!
